馬凱同道從美國寄來了一封與大師函的摘要,Bill Allnutt,外丹功雜誌第四期,中華外丹功研究學會發行,中華民國七十一年八月,第36頁。

馬凱同道原為東海大學經濟系主任,為了修讀博士學位,毅然辭掉東海大學系主任工作,而痛心離開了他最敬仰的師父丹功大師張大師和朝夕研究道功之師門兄弟,二年來一方面忙碌的攻讀博士學分,今已通過資格考試只剩論文之完成就可返國服務。

一方面利用時間自修丹功不懈,另一方面指導教授及家庭主婦學習外丹功,由少數人慢慢已推展致數人之多,其中一位是國人學習外丹功有特殊經驗其印了幾十份教材自費送人,依目前趨勢發展下去,在這大學城的中國人之間外丹功可為很風行之運動。

一位美國人學外丹功之自述:

Stretching arms like wings- The chi feels strong along the top of my arms and through my palms and fingers. Even though I usually hold this posture for a long time, my shoulders do not feel tired. 

(編註翻譯:翼臂足翹一妙功- 感覺到一股氣很強勁的從手臂通過我的手掌到指尖。雖然我保持這個姿勢很久,但是我的肩膀並不覺得累。)

Clench and rotate fists- After circling 9 times my arms feel as if they are suddenly swept along and circle by themselves.

(編註翻譯:疊指為拳神秘功-經過九個手臂上下繞圈動作後,突然兩手臂自已不由自主的上下繞圈圈。)

Holding up the sky and pressing against the ground- As my hands approach each other, they feel pushed away, strongly. The chi feels as if it is pouring from my hands. 

(編註翻譯:仙人托天按地功-當我的雙手,一手向上,一手向上時,強烈的伸展到極致。此時感覺到氣從我的手掌傾瀉出來。)

Travelling along Moll- My hands feel as  if they are pulled along by
Strings. 

(編註翻譯:雙手合十安神功-我的雙手感覺到好像他們被繩索拉扯一般。)

Circling- my waist feels very loose and my body rotates freely. My hands alternately fluctuate up and down as they circle, feeling like two repelling magnets pushed together.

(編註翻譯:迂迴轉帶大妙功-我的腰胯感到非常的鬆而且我的上半身自在的左右來回旋轉,同時,我的雙手手指上下的抖動彈鋼琴,感覺就好像是兩個不同磁性的磁鐵在互相推動對方。)

Waving foot- The chi flows warm and makes my feet feel very comfortable. 

(編註翻譯:單腳垂翹固腎功-氣暖和的流動者,讓我的腳感到非常的舒服。)

Because I am so young and my health is usually so excellent, it is hard for me to cite particular improvements in my health as a result of my Tankung study. 

(編註翻譯:因為我現在非常的年輕而且我的身體非常的健康,很難說我健康的提升是由於我練習外丹功的緣故。)

I am convinced that despite my good health, Tankung is good for my physical and metal wellbeing. It has also added a new flavor to my Tai Chi.  My  teacher had told me that, at first I should not mix  the Tankung with the Tai Chi. One day I felt I was ready and tried it. My Tai Chi felt as it never had before, as if I had been practicing and extra 3 years. 

(編註翻譯:但是我確信外丹功對我的身心健康是有益處的。外丹功也對我所練習的太極拳也有助益。但,我的外丹功老師告訴我,首先,我不應該將外丹功與太極拳混合在一起練習。某一天我感覺我已準備好了而且試著去同時練外丹功與太極拳。我感覺到當下所練的太極拳與過去三年來所練的太極拳完全不一樣。)

The only pitfall was that my Tankung began to slowly
deteriorate. After telling my teacher, I was instructed to discontinue practicing Tai Chi immediately after Tandkung. I haven’t done so since. 

(編註翻譯:所產生出來的失誤缺失就是讓我所練的外丹功效果慢慢的愈變愈差。當我將之告訴我的外丹功老師後,我被告知在練完外丹功後不要繼續練太極拳。至此之後,我就不再練太極拳了。)

When asked to write this I felt that I wouldn’t have anything to say because I don’t think that my practice is all that I am special. However I think that my experience may be interesting because I am a foreigner and also young. But I don’t think that most Americans are ready for something as strange and esoteric as Waitankung. I hope to continue my study of Chinese Kung Fu this summer and also one year from now when I plan to go to Taiwan. I should be staying for one or two years so this opportunity should allow me much time for learning Tankung and another forms of Kung Fu. 

(編註翻譯:當我被要求撰寫本文時,我覺得我沒有什麼可以講出些什麼內容,因為我覺得我練外丹功並沒有非常特別。即使如些,因為我是一個外國人而且很年輕,我覺得我的練功經驗或許是有趣的。但,我並不相信大部份的美國人已準備好接受這個很奇怪且特殊難懂的外丹功。我希望我能在這個暑假繼續學習中國功夫,而且計畫一年後造訪台灣。之後我應該會把握住這個機會持續一到兩年的時間,持續練外丹功與其他的功夫。)
